Finally at the party!

Hello all-

I'm late to the party but I am so glad to be here! Your versions of the Vignette in Stitches quilts are inspirational.

Our small quilt group just started the project. It looks a bit daunting but I'm sure we'll all survive.

I'm using very bold fabrics - primarily Kaffe Fassett. I do some sewing for my local quilt shop and she carries a ton of his fabric. I've never been drawn to his fabric before but decided to try and color outside my lines. When I gathered all the fabrics, I looked at it and said "it looks like fabric vomit". So......unofficially, it's my fabric vomit quilt! :)

I have now put block one together.  Not the best lighting, and I still have to transfer the stitchery but I couldn't wait any longer to share.  Let me know what you think.

Just Starting

Hi Everyone, I'm Vanessa R from Melbourne Australia. I have been watching your progress from the start of the blog and have finally got up the courage to start! I am very impressed by everyone's progress and I think I will have to stitch REALLY fast to catch up!
After suffering with the flu last week, I took myself off to Spotlight only to see there was a sale on, and came home with a PILE of fabric. Think I still need a few more colours.

Found this lovely fabric which I am going to use for the borders and binding.

 

I am due to receive Issue 4 in a few days, so I'm thinking I need to try and stay up-to-date and play catchup at the same time.
I have blogged about it on my blog  Whirling Butterfly, so now it is out there!

It's been a while....

.... But I have some progress to report. Today I finished the stitcheries on Block 1

Blocks 2 and 3 are pieced, I have the magazine for blocks 4, 5 and 9 and in just a week's time, I'll have the patterns for the next two blocks. I'm quite a way behind, but keep getting distracted by other gorgeous projects.

Already!!!

I've stuffed up already!!! I don't like destroying books or magazines so I scanned the stitchery patterns and printed them out so I could pop them onto my light box and see through properly. I thought they looked a little small and I even checked out the blog to see what everyone elses looked like and, still, I  persevered. I just figured I would adlib some flowers and be clueless as to why mine was different! I even remeasured and rechecked my cutting. This morning it hit me that I had printed it a different size so I checked... sure enough it had printed at 93%! I'm such a nit wit! I have dithered about with whether or not to unpick it or not and have decided that I have to. So much work down the drain! So here is my progress so far...

... to only get rid of it!

If anyone was worried that this quilt wasn't for them because of the bright colours, don't be! It is looking delicious in darker traditional/ country colours!!! I'm working on the shoo-fly blocks and should have an update on them soon!

Better Late Than Never!

I discovered Vignette a couple months ago through PamKittyMorning, a favorite blog. I love Australian quilt magazines, so when heard this one, I knew I had to have it! Once issue one arrived in my mailbox, I drooled all over it and immediately decided to make the mystery quilt. I loved the fabrics and colors Leanne had chosen, so I found a shop that had most of the Sweet Broderie fabrics. I don't have a complete 100% match, but that's okay - the stand-in fabrics have a similar look and feel.

When all of my fabrics arrived, I wanted to start the stitching immediately and thought I would do the stitching first and then attach it to the patchwork. I realized, though, that with the batting behind the stitching panels, the seams might be bulky. Of course, I had already started stitching the bird - oh well! I rethought my plan and decided to do it the way Leanne suggested. Just last night I finished the block and now I'm ready to get started on the stitching.

Since we don't have Parlon available here in the US, I went to my local quilt store and got the thinnest batting I could find to use as the backing. I'm trying to decide if I should use a spray adhesive to attach the batting or just baste it into place with thread. I worry that the spray might gum up my needle when I do the stitching. Any thoughts?

Another concern I had was fraying around the edges of the block as I work on the stitching. I've thought about using some Fray Check around the edges to keep everything intact. Has anyone else done that? I don't want to make any mistakes on this gorgeous quilt, but the edges already show some slight fraying and I haven't even started the stitching yet!

I'm exciting to be a part of this blog! Although I'm an avid blog reader, I don't have my own blog, so this is a first for me. Many thanks to Perri for allowing me to participate!

Temptation got the better of me....

So - three days after joining the blog and temptation was just too much - the fabrics were all sitting there looking at me... so with the royal wedding for company I started yesterday! God bless bank holidays! Firstly, here are my fabrics:

The Shoo Fly blocks took a while....

But Block one is pieced and ready for the embroidery - now I just need to chose my threads....

I am absolutely lovign seeing all the different fabrics people are chosing and I can't wait to see some more. Happy stitching!

Finished Block 1 (NOT!)

Unlike Sue and all of you clever speedy stitchers working on block 2 and 3, I am yet to completed block 1.


I am close though, in relation to the stitchery I have a few butterflies left to chain stitch and 2 shoofly blocks (well technically 1 - as I am making the blocks for block 1 and 8 (? was it 8 or 16?) as per Leanne's instructions)





Again, I adore Rosalie Quinlan's Sweet Broderie fabrics and have purchased bits on sale from various places, so I can add to my stash and maybe get a few hexagons out of them too!

I am looking forward to finishing it and getting a start on Block 2 and 3 soon.
Hope all of your Vignette in Stitches and Vignette Hexagon Quilts and any other stitching or life projects are going well.

Finally a Beginning!

And finally got started on block one, which I have now traced and am in the process of working on the stitching. I have not yet completed the shoofly blocks but will work on them next. More details will probably be posted on my blog a bit later today!

I am so very excited to finally have started!

Shoo Fly Blocks

I had a free day today 'Home Alone' and managed to sew my 14 Shoo Fly Blocks for the Mystery Quilt from Issue 1. I think I am happy with my choice of colours. Well, after sewing 14 blocks, I will have to be!

Also, good news. My hanky linen arrived in the post today. I ordered it from E Bay in the USA and it arrived in Spain within a week. Fantastic! The postman must have known I was itching to start the stitcheries.

Finally ...

... I have finished stitching Block 1 ...



... I have just noticed that one butterfly doesn't have its body stitched ... will fix that now ... done...

I have chosen to stitch my blocks without the shoo-fly border ... will decide if I wish to add the

shoo-flies when I have finished all the individual blocks.

All the pieces for block 2 & 3 have been cut and will trace stitcheries and piece over the next few days.

I just had to get it finished.....

Sorry for the not so beautiful view of my washing machine... but this is where my block is hiding from the children until I decide what I'm going to do with it to store it until I've finished the quilt! I had promised myself (and my husband) that I wouldn't buy the second magazine of Vignette until I'd completed the first block. Was very good incentive to get in and get this finished last night!!

So, within about 5 minutes of finishing it I'd jumped onto the computer and ordered Vignette #2 from Perri's online store.

Just wanted to encourage those who are still stitching - keep going with your stitching - sometimes it can get hard to complete the blocks (trust me... I know this one too well!!)... but it's well worth sticking with it and getting the block finished!!

Block One Pieced!

I finally managed to piece together my first block of the Vignette in Stitches quilt on the weekend!  Since taking this photo I have traced the design and started stitching!   I thought I had better hurry up as the second issue of Vignette is due out this week!   I have loved making all the little blocks and the stitchery is beautiful!  I'm loving seeing everyone's blocks completed too!   I have tried to use fabrics from my very large stash rather than purchase new ones!  I'm happy with the colours and decided to stitch on a beige print with small white dots - hope the end result looks good!  Happy stitching everyone!

Finally ....... a beginning

Hi there, fellow Vignette stitchers and Leannes House fans.  I signed up to stitch Vignette early on, but had to wait for my supplies to arrive in dribs and drabs.  Last weekend I got the block pieced and traced, and have made a small start on the stitching this week.  I'm loving the Cosmo threads, they are so silky to work with, beautiful!

There have been some beautiful blocks shown here so far, and like everyone else I'm really looking forward to seeing Issue Two and what the next blocks look like.

Farm Girl Stitching

I better get stitchin'......

I finally pulled out block one and finished off tracing it. Not really a job I love to do - but I guess stitching doesn't get done without it!! My aim is to have the birdie block finished today and then I can start on the outside border. I love chain stitch. It's not something I've ever done until I started Leanne's Down In The Garden BOM. I just love the effect it makes. Thanks Perri for your tip on how to finish chain stitch off so it's invisible.... I still haven't mastered it... but I'll have another read of your post now that I'm up to chain stitch!

Stitching Progress ...

... I am slowly making some progress on block 1 ...

... my stitching so far ...





 ...  I have just realised that I forgot to trace in a flower - notice the gap in the middle of the side border ...the stem is flower less !... must have missed it in my excitement when tracing  :-))

 ... at the moment with the very warm weather we are having, I am unable to stitch at night because of the insects that like to share my stitching light ... a joy of living where I live ... in the bush ...

Vignette virus infection.

What a great idea to share the joy with others who also love this project


I'm Gerda, one of the two Quiltwitches. When I heard of the first edition of the magazine I ordered an issue immediately. When I received it, I was infected, I looked into my stash and found the fabric I needed to get started. It's already addicting. My first block is finished. I can hardly wait to start with number two.

A nice idea for a Mug Rug?
