Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to all. I have so enjoyed watching everyone's progress on this quilt. One of my plans for the holidays is to get the stitching started on this quilt. It is so lovely. Take care all and enjoy the break. Happy Sewing.

What pen do you use to trace your embroidery design onto the Hanky Linen?

I'm feverishly trying to get caught up before I start Issue 5 sewing. My Parlan is on it's way to the US from Australia, can't wait to get it in my hands! I haven't traced the embroidery design yet because I just don't know which pen to use. I have read about a lot of different kinds of pens - what do you use? I don't think the disappearing one would be a good choice because I don't know how long it will be from the time I trace to the time I sit down to stitch. I'm a seasoned quilter but the embroidery is new (again) to me. I appreciate any help!

One photo to share - I was sewing up lots of 1/2 square triangles last night. I piled them up and sewed away. I got up to grab another stack that was behind me and peeked at the pile on the other side of the machine. I discovered that they had pretty much perfectly stacked themselves up. I didn't do that - they just landed that way.

Vignette Issue 5

Please don't think I am about to start the blocks in issue 5 but as soon as it arrived today I had to read it all.......
I am wondering if anyone else is thinking it might be easier to do these two blocks with two more that I expect will be coming later. I am doing my long pieces in one go thus avoiding the seams and am wondering if this middle piece could be done in one go??????
I am not getting on very fast as I am so weak and start on lots of other projects!!!!!

Blocks 5 and 9

I was determined to finish these blocks before I could do any more Christmas sewing, so I am pleased to say that I have!!
Here are all the blocks laid out on my bed, sorry it isn't a very good photo but it gives an idea of how they are looking together ....
I am looking forward to the arrival of the 5th magazine, hopefully tomorrow or next week.  I can't wait to see what the middle blocks will look like!
Happy stitching, Wendy

Vignette In Stitches, the “Happier Edition"

Hi everyone!

I’m Janie and I live in the Seattle, Washington area.  Here’s my version of the Vignette In Stitches quilt using the Riley Blake fabric line: Happier.  I love this fabric; it has cute little birds and flowers and I think matches up well with the embroidery.  I’ve changed up the floss colors a bit to go with the fabric.  I also decided to do 9 patch blocks instead of the shoo fly blocks. All the 9 patch blocks are done and I have put together Blocks 2 and 3, Block 4 and Blocks 5 and 9.  I will enjoy working with all these bright colors as the dreary winter settles in.

Block 1 is finished.

And here is how Block 2 looks:

This is a fun quilt to make and I am enjoying seeing all of your quilts as I am working on mine.

Have a great week!!

2 more blocks finished

I decided not to do the extra embroidery or the applique because I think they would just get lost on my 'fabric vomit' fabrics.

After looking at Issue 5....I'm in a bit of a pickle about what to use for my background colors for the center blocks as I really don't HAVE any light colored fabrics that would work. I could try to find some - or I could do some hand-dying. thinking, thinking, thinking......

Plenty of time to figure it out as I'm just starting on the 2nd border section now.

Issue 5 - Cutting Guide

Issue 5 - Full of Inspiring Eye Candy

I went out my local Patchwork Shop this morning and picked up the latest Issue and again I am impressed.  Lots of reading and inspiration and it sounds like the lucky ladies to go to Vietnam had a wonderful time.

I am also pleasantly surprised by the centre blocks for our quilt.  I don't know what I was expecting but this is not it and I LOVE it, thank you Leanne.

I am so impressed that I have started to cut out the pieces for blocks 6 and 7 but it was not until I had layed them out (the background pieces) that I found I was a piece short.

So just a quick post so you can amend your cutting list on page 32.

Go down to the  "Fabric - Pink with little spots"

In addition to what is listed you will also need a 5 1/2 by 7 1/2 block for Block 7.  The block is pictured in the layout on page 39 it just doesn't seem to be listed in the cutting guide. (If it is, I think I need new glasses and a stronger cup of coffee)

Enjoy your stitching, Sharon

Blossom

This isn't strictly the Vignette mystery quilt, but it is one of the other designs from Vignette issue 4: I've adapted it to make it into a "teapot rug" and made two mug rugs to go with it using blocks from my other WIP - The Farmer's Wife Mystery Quilt.

I've put more information on my blog!

Fussy Cutting and a touch of Woodland

Hi Everyone

I have had a busy couple of days working on Block 2 & 3.  Lots of fussy cutting to get the flowers just right.  Thanks Monica from Happy Zombie's your fabric is so bright and lovely.  Also while I was cutting the postman delivered me a wonderful parcel of Natalie Lymer from Cinderberry Stitches new fabric line "Woodland", so of course I had to find a spot for some lovely mushroom houses.

Here is a shot two blocks hanging up.... the sun is in the wrong spot and shining through the fabric at the top.. but still you get the picture
Then here is a close up of block 2 fussy cuts
And here is a close up of block 3 fussy cuts

I am really happy with how bright and colourful it is turning out... Now off to start tracing the stitchery.

Happy Stitching

A few pictures of my progress

Hi everyone...

Just a quick post to update on my progress.  I have totally sewn together my 60 Shoo-Fly blocks  ... Yeah me!!  Now it will be fun chosing the ones I will use for Blocks 2 & 3.  Here are a few pictures of how Block 1 is looking so far.
A little bit of Embroidery done.

A close up.
Straight out of the hoop to you !! LOL

I am hoping to get the next 2 stitched together by the end of the week, since Issue 5 will soon be with us and there will be lots more to do.

Lastly here is a picture of my baby "Hunnigirl" watching me stitch.

Happy stitching everyone

Cheers

I'm late to the party but so happy to be here!

I just wanted to say hello to everyone and to publicly thank Perri for inviting me to be a part of this group. I walked into a fabulous quilt store, Happiness is...Quilting in McKinney, Texas, a few weeks ago and saw pieces of Vignette hanging on the wall as they were offering it as a kit. It's one of those few moments in my quilting life that I saw something I HAD to have, regardless of the cost! There is just something about it that makes me happy. I purchased the kit and the magazines and off I went with a smile on my face! The kit was lacking a few Sweet Broderie and Basics fabrics (the store had to substitute) so I diligently began became obsessed with finding the rest of them. In my Googling for the fabrics I came across this blog. I'm still waiting for a few pieces of fabric to arrive but last night I had some time so I went to work. I will tell you, it was hard to cut that first piece! I just LOVE these fabrics together. I didn't get much finished but hey, 4 blocks is a start.

I love seeing everyone's progress and love seeing the quilt made with other fabrics - beautiful! I have not embroidered for 25 years - so I definitely have to PRACTICE before I start that part. I have some newbie questions for those who are experienced Vignetters.

1. Is Pellon fusible batting the same as Parlan? I have used Pellon 987F in some quilted cosmetic bags. Is it the same thing?
2. What kind of pen do you use to trace the embroidery pattern onto the Hanky Linen? I see several different ones in my Googling. I have read a lot about the new Frixion pens. I don't think they would be the best method in my climate. What else do you use that works well?

How can this NOT make you happy?

Finally, a few finished Shoo Fly blocks. Only 58 more to go!

A bit of progress

I headed into the sewing room on Saturday and put together blocks 5 and 9 of Vignette and traced the stitching on the pieced border. There is so much stitching on this quilt!

Block 4 Finished

I took advantage of my second FNSI (Friday Night Sew In) to finish off this block

I also worked on a couple of other projects. If you would like to see they will be on MY BLOG

I am looking forward to the next magazine to see what the inside blocks will entail.

Happy stitching,
Sharon

The fourth block

I have actually finished another block of the Vignette quilt. This is block 4. The stitching has been done for ages but the putting together has been a stumbling block! Blocks 5 and 9 are partly done and I haven't even started last issue's blocks but if I keep stitching it will get done eventually. I now need to do a bit of tidying up at the stitchery seam.
Here are blocks 2, 3 and 4 together. Block 1 is hanging up at Hobbysew.

Finally at the party!

Hello all-
I'm late to the party but I am so glad to be here! Your versions of the Vignette in Stitches quilts are inspirational.

Our small quilt group just started the project. It looks a bit daunting but I'm sure we'll all survive.

I'm using very bold fabrics - primarily Kaffe Fassett. I do some sewing for my local quilt shop and she carries a ton of his fabric. I've never been drawn to his fabric before but decided to try and color outside my lines. When I gathered all the fabrics, I looked at it and said "it looks like fabric vomit". So......unofficially, it's my fabric vomit quilt! :)

Update on Progress

I think that the turn in the weather back to the cooler days and chilly nights has inspired me to do a lot of stitching and sewing as I feel like I am churning things out at the moment, but the best bit, I am LOVING it!
My plan of attack for tonight is my Vignette Mystery Quilt.  I have now pieced blocks 8 and 12 but I need to concentrate on getting block 4 to the finish line.

Everything is traced ready to go.

It should be a very relaxed night here as it's a Public Holiday tomorrow (Bendigo Cup) so no stress over kids going to bed early, homework etc so that Block 4 is well and truly set in my sights :o)

If you would like to see what else I have been working on feel free to pop on over to my Blog. I also have a giveaway there for my 100th post so please feel free to enter that one also.

How are your blocks going?
Enjoy your creativity,
Sharon

Finally getting started!

After months of looking through Leanne's magazines and just loving the Vignette in stitches quilt progress, I've finally ordered a kit through Under the Mulberry Tree.  Email came this afternoon that the first part has been posted - wow!  Only ordered it this morning.  Can't wait now to start - it is so beautiful!  Now I can look at this blog happily, knowing that soon (??) I'll have something to contribute other than envy!

Cheers

Starting a little late here

Hi Everyone

Thought I post a little note to say I am joining in the fun of the Mystery Quilt.

Have been watching the blog, reading and re-reading the magazine, searching searching for the perfect fabric to try something different. Then I saw them the lovely new fabric collection by Monica Solorio-Snow "Happy Mochi Yum Yum" from the Happy Zombie.

Here is a pile of Yum Yum being made into shoo fly's

And a few completed!!

And a few more
Looking good (except the lighting tonight doesn't do them justice)

So they are coming together nicely.  I have chosen a hot pink spot instead of the red, and a lovely soft pink spot for the background of the bird stitchery.

I have nearly got Block 1 together but everytime I put another shoo fly together I think I want to put it in Block 1....

So I have decided to wait until all 60 are done so that I can have the choice of them all.

Anyway will keep you posted...

Happy Stitching Everyone!!

Fabrics and Threads

Hi! My name is Nicky. Although I won't actually be starting my Vignette quilt this year I wanted to share my fabrics with the group. I am using the range that Leanne has used. It is so bright and pretty, different from the civil war reproduction fabrics which fill my stash.

Although I am looking forward to starting this quilt one day, I am currently working on my Dear Jane quilt which will be my wedding quilt and I am racing to have it finished by my wedding date next year. I bought all these lovely fabrics from Patchwork with Gail B and threads from Stitches from the Bush before I got engaged and wanted to make a wedding quilt. So, until I have finished that my Vignette quilt has been stashed away in it's own tub ready and waiting for me.
Happy stitching every-one!
Nicky
