Stitching goodies have arrived

Look what arrived in just 8 days from Sandy in Oz to Jersey. I added in an extra pattern to try out my stitching skills first.

A few question on the stitcher keeper for anyone who has already done it:
1. Are there two layers of parlan, one behind the stitching and one on the lining?
2. Is the iron on pattern more than a photocopy? If it isn't, can you copy the Vignette BOM patterns and reverse them and then iron them on to the fabric?

I just need my background fabric to arrive and then I have all my supplies at last.

  2. I can't answer the parlan question as I've not stitched that particular design but the second question I can answer - iron on patterns are printed with a special ink, it isn't the same thing as photocopy ink unfortunately.

  3. Parlan is pretty thin - so maybe she's using two lots just to thicken it up and make it a bit more sturdy? I haven't made that particular pattern though.

  4. The pattern does say to put parlan on both sides of the pocket. I didn't on mine and only put the parlan on the stitched sided and you can see the pink lining colour a little so it is probably better to put it on both sides. The transfer is a special kind of copy so it won't work with the Vignette ones. Sadly you have to trace them all, which is very time consuming!

  5. I am working on the Stitchers Keeper (along with some other projects, LOL) and I used the iron on so that I didn't have to trace. My info that came with it said the iron on can be used several times...I'm thinking probably 3 at the most but not sure. It transferred light but clear enough and very easy to see for stitching. Enjoy! Hugs...

  6. OH...sorry, I meant to add that it is a special ink, as Sylvia pointed out. Hugs...

  7. Perri sent me that pattern. I have not started it yet and as I cannot get parlan am thinking of trying Pellon - has anyone else used that?

  8. Hi Sue. As mentioned in other comments, your answer to question 1. is yes, there are two layers of Parlan (see page 3 of the pattern with full instructions on this.) Question 2 has also been answered, it's a very special ink (and also very expensive!!).If you have a look at page 1 of the pattern there's an explanation about it all there (too long to go into here). The pattern includes the iron on transfer and ALSO a pattern for tracing so you can use the method you like as well as be able to re-use your pattern even when the transfer has run out. Hope this helps and that you enjoy the stitching!

  9. I have some fabrics and am waiting on a few more and other supplies to do the Vignette in Stitches 16 block mystery quilt. Block one looks wonderful and the fabrics are really 'yummy'. I usually do all sewing by machine so don't know how I'll fair with the hand work! We don't have Parlan wadding or batting in Ireland and am just wondering what some of the others have used instead. I read that it's lovely though nice to work with! Thanks for having me! Hugs
