Some progress

Whilst recouperating from my day surgery op on Tuesday, it was the perfect time to stitch some more of the label whilst putting my feet up.

I chose to use the following as I couldn't readily get hold of the Lecien fabrics:
Patterned fabric - FQ stack by Moda called It's a Hoot by Momo
Script fabric - Sunkissed by Sweetwater for Moda
Spotted fabric - Moda essential dots in Lipstick
Background - Moda Marbles in baby white - although it is actually cream / off white

For the label I tried printing the pattern on to the fabric which I'd ironed onto some freezer paper. This worked reasonably well, but I hadn't realised the bounding box was 6" but the unfinished size was 7" so I've added in the turquoise frame to cover my mistake. Just a few stamens to add to the flowers in the label and then it will be time to trace the stitchery border. This I will be doing with Frixion pens which I saw on a blog which iron off. I have tested them on some scraps and they really do work. And you can buy them from Amazon.

Hello

Hello everyone, my name is Liz luv 2 cre8te blog
I am a newbie to the Vignette blog.
I learned about this from a lovely lady friend Peg from Happy in Quilting. (Who gently twisted my arm)
I had planned to finish all my UFOs and this indeed is a very looooooooooong list but I have been dreaming of doing this quilt since I first saw it in January.
So it wasn't too hard to convince me to join along ( and I'm sure one or three!!!!!!!!! quilty diversions won't hurt ) So thanks to Peg for convincing me and also to Perri for starting this great blog.

I am looking forward to making a start on this lovely quilt this weekend. I have chosen my fabrics. I am going to use the 'Flower Sugar' range by Lecien. I bought these fat quarters last year so I'm glad to be using my stash. I love this range lots of lovely, yummy spring colours and
gorgeous roses. Both my favourites. Along with stitchery and Leanne Beasley designs which are also my favourites. I am currently stitching the 'Down in the Garden' BOM as well. Which is a gorgeous quilt too and is also another favourite thing for me to do, gardening.

I can't wait to get stuck into transferring the stitcheries and churn dash blocks. and yes I am still working on that loooooooooooooong list of UFOs.

I've received my fabric!

Hi! After viewing your inspirational posts I have decided to join you ladies in stiching the Vignette mystery quilt.

I have also decided to use a different range of fabric. I have chosen Whimsy by FigTree. These colours are a fair bit different to the originals used by Leanne so I have also decided to use different colour threads. And also I am going to use DMC threads as I have a huge stash and don't want to convert just yet. I have included photos of the fabric and chosen thread colours. I am not sure on the thread colours yet as they may change after I have pieced the shoo fly blocks because fabrics throw up different colours when pieced in different ways. Let me know what you think of the colours. Not too sure if the red will be too much.

I am hoping to get the piecing done this week so that I can get stuck into the stitching.
Cheers ShelleyH.

Shoo-Flys Finally Done!

Sunday was wonderful! I spent all afternoon and evening in the sewing room. I made me a iPhone pouch, and then finished my shoo-fly blocks and got them sewn on. Now I have a complete Block One apart from finishing the stitching.

Can you see the boo-boo I made. I really am dumb sometimes. I added 2+2 and got 5. That's right isn't it??? *frown*.  I just assumed that the center bird was on the white hanky linen, didn't I. I even thought Leanne left something off the cutting instructions. How stupid was that....sorry, Leanne!!! Then I had a closer look at your photos and the photos in the magazine.....oh!! the birdie is on pink with white dots fabric....fancy that!! Dah!  See, Josie, you're not the only one!!

I traced, for the second time, and attached, for the second time, a birdie on white linen. Don't ask! It's all ready to stitch, but I don't know if I can stand the fact that the birdie is on the wrong fabric. I'm not keen on the thought of unpicking it, again, and tracing it again....what does everyone think???

Actually, their not very good photos, are they? Sorry.

Finally ....... a beginning

Hi there, fellow Vignette stitchers and Leannes House fans.  I signed up to stitch Vignette early on, but had to wait for my supplies to arrive in dribs and drabs.  Last weekend I got the block pieced and traced, and have made a small start on the stitching this week.  I'm loving the Cosmo threads, they are so silky to work with, beautiful!
There have been some beautiful blocks shown here so far, and like everyone else I'm really looking forward to seeing Issue Two and what the next blocks look like.

Thanks Perri for the opportunity to be a part of this journey............see you all again soon.

Stitching goodies have arrived

Look what arrived in just 8 days from Sandy in Oz to Jersey. I added in an extra pattern to try out my stitching skills first.

A few question on the stitcher keeper for anyone who has already done it:
1. Are there two layers of parlan, one behind the stitching and one on the lining?
2. Is the iron on pattern more than a photocopy? If it isn't, can you copy the Vignette BOM patterns and reverse them and then iron them on to the fabric?

I just need my background fabric to arrive and then I have all my supplies at last.

I better get stitchin'......

I finally pulled out block one and finished off tracing it. Not really a job I love to do - but I guess stitching doesn't get done without it!! My aim is to have the birdie block finished today and then I can start on the outside border. I love chain stitch. It's not something I've ever done until I started Leanne's Down In The Garden BOM. I just love the effect it makes. Thanks Perri for your tip on how to finish chain stitch off so it's invisible.... I still haven't mastered it... but I'll have another read of your post now that I'm up to chain stitch!
How is everyone else going?? (For those of us that are a bit slow?!)

Ready or not.....

it appears not!

I thought I had all my fabrics ready till I got them together yesterday to make a start.

Then I realised I didn't have the lovely red spot for the borders or the pale pick dot for the bird stitchery.   I was spitting feathers!!   Took me all day yesterday to track down the fabrics over here.  Here's hoping they arrive soon... I'm itching to get started.

Now.... I need some assistance please.    I can't get my hands on Parlan over here and was wondering if there is something similar I could use.   I normally use Weaveline behind stitcheries would this be OK ?  I've got lightweight fusible fleece too.   I'd really appreciate your thoughts on this.  I don't want to spoil the ship for a  hap'eth of tar... if you get my gist! :))

Happy stitching....

Hello!!

So today I thought I should start cutting and sewing ... I received part of my parcel at the end of last year and the rest a week or so ago so I have the lot now ...

I thought I should start before the next Vignette was out ...

I have had wonderful service from Quilt Fabric Delights for my "kit".

So today I sewed together enough to start the stitchery ... I haven't tackled the "blocks" yet!!

Then I traced on the stitchery and I am ready to go ... I have a long road trip on Wednesday so I hope to get started then!!

I loved seeing everyones posts about their progress ... keep posting!!

My first block completed

Well here it is at last my first block completed - Looking forward to the second.

Enjoy your stitching - Pam

Block #1 shoo fly blocks done

I was so pleased to get my fabrics earlier in the week, that I immediately cut into my It's a Hoot FQ pack to make the seven shoo fly blocks needed for block 1. Here's a picture of my blocks.

However I wasn't happy with the block I'd cut from the big patterned fabric (top right) so I made another block using a smaller pattern and will use the larger patterns for larger blocks and perhaps fussy cut the owls.

So I'm now catching up on some UFOs whilst I wait impatiently for:
Threads and needles from Sandy
Red spot and baby white moda marble from Fiona

Sneak Peak ...

... did you notice this lovely sneak peak ...

Copied from Leanne's blog
that Leanne had on her last blog  entry ?

It looks  so exciting, piecing, hand applique and fussy cutting  ... could this be part of block 2 ?

I'm so looking forward to Issue 2.

How is everyone progressing with the stitching on block 1 ?
I'm still stitching, almost finished all the greenery, then on to the flowers.

Happy stitching, P

Missing....

I've been missing for a bit! I'd been waiting for my Cosmo threads to arrive (which they now have)... and had the first block all sewn ready to go. I now can trace it and iron on the Parlan onto the back and start stitching.

We had a really lovely weeks holiday at the beach and are just getting back to organising Buster Jim (Mr 5) for his first day of school next week. Once that's all done then I'll have more time to get stitching!

My aim is to get at least a bit done before the next magazine comes out!!!

Getting started

Thank you for inviting me to participate in the blog. I realise I'm about three months behind everyone else, but I hope that inspires others to start whenever they can. I received the magazine at the beginning of January and have read and re-read it from cover to cover half a dozen times whilst deciding what fabrics to use. Initially I chose the sunkissed line pictured below which I received yesterday, but decided against them as they don't have as great a variety of colours as the stitchery.

I could have changed the colours in the stitchery but as I've never attempted a stitchery before, I thought that might be beyond my capabilities, so early last week I ordered It's a Hoot by Momo. The parcel of fabric has just arrived, so I've unwrapped them for you to enjoy along with me.

I have a free day on Thursday so I think I will be making my churn dash blocks, whilst I wait for my threads to arrive from Sandy at Cookies & Cream and my red and white dots and background fabric from a local supplier. I have my magazine, embroidery hoop and 2H pencils all in a container ready to start!!

I will be back later in the week with my churn dash blocks completed.
