Finally felt a little motivated to work on my large ongoing projects and put together the other centre piece for the Vignette quilt. I have decided to just do little bits at a time but try and work on each UFO at least a little each month. Eventually they should then get finished. I feel quite motivated to start the applique now!

I just discovered this blog, the magazine-the amazing mystery BOM! I am saving to purchase the magazines--since purchasing all eight at one is pricey! ($160 plus shipping...) Anyway, I was wondering if you could tell me the yardage necessary for it. I have a couple collections in mind and wondered if fat quarter bundles would work. THanks for your help!
ReplyDeleteI am using a fat quarter set of Nancy Halverson fabrics which appears to be enough for the patchy bits. You then need background fabric (it is linen in the original but I used plain patchwork fabric), a few other plains for backgrounds for the centre and some full width border fabrics (red spot in the original) and aqua in mine. The exact requirements suggests 2 fat quarter packs.
DeleteKim, I just discovered this quilt a few months ago, so I'm not up with all the other ladies. I did discover an online quilt shop that has the first 4 Vignette magazines on sale for 12.00 instead of 19. It is "Under the Mulberry Tree", a shop in Australia. It might be worth paying the shipping to knock 7.00 off the first 4 issues. They also carry the Parlan that Leanne suggests using and the hanky linen. I just ordered a little of each to see how I like them. Good luck!! Helen in Calif.

ReplyDeleteI also used fat quarter bundles. Look for some to be fairly light pieces for that center background section. I then took my fat quarters to the store to match up the embroidery floss - since I didn't go with the fabric line of the sample. I need to get mine out again, as it has been tucked away for awhile now. I think two fat quarter packs is too much. I am sure I have more than enough with one pack.

ReplyDeleteI'm stuck at the stitching - those long bands get me down! I need to have it organized and in a place so that I can just pick it up and do a bit at a time and not look at it as such a huge "undone" thing. I know if I do a little bit here and a little bit there I will have it done. Just need to do it! I did stitch the date on mine - I obviously didn't make it by then! I am going to use that date as a "started on" date and see what the "end date" will be.
